TIME ON YOUR HANDS? HAVE A SKILL YOU CAN PASS ON?
YOU CAN MAKE A POSITIVE CONTRIBUTION TO BRITAIN’S INDUSTRIAL HERITAGE!

The Buckinghamshire Railway Centre at Quainton, near Aylesbury, always welcomes new faces to join its ranks, and there is something for just about everyone to get involved with.

Want to drive or restore a Steam Locomotive? Paint a Building? Lay some Track? Do some gardening? Help in the shop or Cafe. You will be made very welcome! But there are other things to interest - the range of activities is wide: train driving to repairing the track, fence painting to carriage re-building, machine shop work to making sandwiches and cooking hot meals, selling tickets, and giving guided tours to schools. Full training is provided where needed – and Volunteers can get involved without getting their hands and faces dirty if they’d rather not!

Restoration and operating this leading Railway Centre is a seven days a week operation – many “early-retireds” work at the Centre mid-week – and involve more than one member of their family too!
Trustee Tony Lyster explains: “Last year we became a Registered Museum, and our visitors, coming in ever-increasing numbers, expect ever higher standards. In turn, we need more people to help run, develop, restore and operate this collection from the steam age. With a new engine driving course starting shortly, now is an ideal time to join”.
You need to be over 16 and a member of the Quainton Railway Society (£20 per year, concessions available) which entitles you to partake in all activities and benefits, including insurance, regular newsletters and full training as required.

An application form is available to download on our booking forms page, under QRS membership form.

Prospective members are invited to telephone the Office on 01296 655720 for an informal chat.
